Departing June 2019 - 7 days
The plan for this adventure is to venture into the stunning Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan and explore this intriguing region.
Landing in Bishkek, we'll have a quick breakfast before taking the private minibus to Karakol. The start of all things outdoor adventure in Kyrgyzstan.
From Karakol, we will begin our self-supported trek into the Karakol Valley staying first at Sirota Camp before heading onto our goal, Lake Ala Kul - a turqoise glacial lake situated at a high mountain pass. From the pass we can see the Takyr Tor glacier and many other high, alpine style mountains.
After enjoying the lake, we head down the valley to Kledike Camp. The next morning we walk down the valley, spending a few hours at the thermal hot springs of Altyn Arashan before finishing off the valley and returning to Karakol.
We'll have a full day to rest and experience the nomadic culture of Kyrgyzstan with a performance of the famous Kyrgyz horseriding skills and a feast of local cuisine.
After all the adventure, we'll head back to Bishkek for a night before flying back to Hong Kong with plenty of stories.

N.b. Accommodation may change but will be of similar quality. Expedition dates will remain the same.
Accommodation will be in basic guesthouses and hotels in towns. During the trekking phase, you will be wildcamping in tents on the hillside.
Meat is a substantial part of Kyrgyz cuisine. Expect mutton, horse meat, yak, served in dumplings, on top of rice, noodles or potatoes. During the trekking phase we will cook simple, locally-bought food. In towns, we will eat at simple but clean local restaurants.
The team will take private and public minibuses for long-distance travel and shared taxis for shorter trips.
At the first training the team will be given a reccommended kit list. The kit required is similar to that needed for a multi-day camping trek in HK winter time, with a few extras for the colder and potentially wetter weather at higher altitudes.
The trip will have a bilingual trip leader (English and Cantonese). The Kyrgyz people speak mainly Russian and Kyrgyz, however many people working in tourism will also be able to speak English, but it is not widespread.
The open expeditions are aimed at active people 18 or over.
Our trip leaders will hold one compulsory training day covering kit, the itinerary, what to expect, fitness and to get to know each other. Further training days will be held for free and will be open to family and friends too.
Minimum Fitness Requirements
At times expedition life can be physically and mentally tiring. We highly recommend that to fully enjoy the experience you undertake some form of physical training in your own time. Horizon Line Expeditions are achievable by anyone with an OK level of fitness and a positive attitude.
Our aim to be as inclusive as possible, so for participants that we feel do not have a sufficient base level of fitness we may suggest a training action plan to help.
Get in touch with any fitness, health, kit or training questions which remain unanswered.
